GRI is designed to be a professional organisation run in a spirit of voluntary contribution to further GRI’s task and to build GRI as an institution. We work with minimal structures, keeping ourselves open to the context of how GR may be offered in India to help it respond to the needs of its times. Formally constituted as a trust, the group of trustees are responsible for GRI’s legal and statutory requirements and provide guidance for staying the course on our mission and core values.

GRI’s offerings are possible because of the commitment, aspiration and investment of a growing pool of people who feel enthused and drawn to GRIs purpose and relevance. This aspiration and investment could be in multiple roles which are not mutually exclusive. The voluntary nature of this range of contributions keeps institutional and programme costs low, helping access to a very wide range of people.

Participating as members in GRIs offerings, being involved as staff members and convenors, being involved in specially constituted groups to design and offer our programs, working on backend tasks such as office, finance and accounts, communications that sustain the institution, are some such tasks.

The Programmes Committee is a key leadership and  executive structure in GRI. It is entrusted by the trustees to envision, reflect, review, and take decisions on GRIs offerings - events/ programmes, spaces of engagement and collaboration, and the systems and processes needed to manage it as an institution.

The Finance and Office team of Uma Ravikumar & Vanya Joseph along with Rosemary Viswanath manage the finance and office functions of GRI providing the backbone support to programmes & events.

Shorter term teams are constituted to design and implement projects – such as ongoing website development, the GRI Forum, teams directing and convening specific offerings.

Thus, institution-building in GRI is envisaged as an ongoing process via individuals’ own initiative for engagement and involvement through which capacity, competence, application, and enthusiasm for further investment grows. The Programmes Committee via its leadership and managerial role aims to keep the link between GRI’s task and vision and the interests and contribution of this wider community.
